The all India institute of medical sciences was founded in 1956, and since then has been the country’s top most medical and health care institute with teaching and research being conducted in over 42 disciplines at the Institute. AIIMS also runs a College of Nursing and trains students for B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing post-certificate) degrees. It has about 25 clinical departments, including 4 super specialty centers. It is an autonomous Institution of national importance; AIIMS awards its own medical degrees. Courses in medical and Para-medical fields both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels are also offered by the Institute.
Christian Medical College, Vellore
the Christian medical college Vellore is not only the oldest medical colleges of the nation, completing a century in year 2000, it also occupies a prominent place amongst the medical institutions of the country and the world. Following the preaching's and teachings of Lord Jesus from the core, it is a medical college with graduate courses in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Laboratory Technology, and Medical Records Science, 11 postgraduate medical diploma courses, 23 postgraduate degree courses, and 11 higher specialty courses. The Medical College also offers a variety of allied health sciences diploma programmes.
Armed Forces Medical College, Pune
The Armed Forces Medical College was established in 1948 and has multiple roles to perform. These are primarily training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates, nursing cadets and paramedical staff. Patient care forms an integral part of its training curriculum. The institution is responsible for providing the entire pool of specialists and super specialists to Armed Forces by giving them in service training. The college is also involved in conducting research in various medical subjects as well as those aspects which would affect the morale and performance of the Armed Forces both in war and peace.
Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post-Graduate medical education and research (JIPMER), Pondicherry
Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) although established by the French government, was taken over by the Government of India in November 1956. The institute is affiliated to Pondicherry University and conducts a number of medical and paramedical courses. Admissions to the courses are made on all India basis and strictly on the basis of merit through entrance examinations. The institute is also active in research in various fields of modern medicine & health and medical education.
Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai
The Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College was founded in 1926, in Mumbai. It provides training to about 2000 students in undergraduate, postgraduate and super specialty medical courses; in undergraduate and postgraduate physical therapy and occupational therapy; Master's and PhD courses in various allied specialties. A nursing school is also maintained by this institution.
Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi
Maulana Azad Medical College and associated hospital complex consist of four integral units, names Maulana Azad Medical College, Lok Nayak Hospital, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital and Guru Nanak Eye Centre. The college was established in 1961. The institution offers MBBS and BDS courses at the undergraduate level. The institution offers postgraduate degrees and diplomas in a variety of medical specialties. A total of 67 seats are available for MD, 25 for MS, and 25 for post graduate diploma courses. It also offers post doctoral courses in 7 super-specialties and admits 24 students each year to these specialties.
King George’s Medical University, Luckhnow
The King George Medical College, Luckhnow, was established in 1911. The college presently under a new university, called the CSM Medical University, offers courses in biomedical sciences, MBBS, MD/MS, DM / MCh, PhD courses and many others.
Kasturba Medical College ManiPal
Kasturba Medical College (KMC) was established in1953; KMC was the first private sector medical college in India. St John’s Medical College, Bangalore
St. John's Medical College offers graduate, postgraduate, diploma and super specialty degrees recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, Karnataka. The Supreme Court of India has granted the college the privilege of conducting its own entrance test and admissions made strictly on the basis of merit. Established in 1963 the college has been awarded the NAAC status of a 5-star college.
