Women You Should Never Date Women

You must keep the distance if and when you come across women with traits as described below.

1. The Nagger

Most men complain that all women nag. Firstly, not all women nag. Secondly, nagging to a certain extent is fine. It becomes a problem when it exceeds that certain limit. If she is constantly on your case and is not letting you be then you should decamp asap. She is your girlfriend and not your school teacher to nag you at every opportunity that presents itself. And if she can't help but be that crazy teacher, you should at least help yourself by not being with her.

2. The Possessive / Obsessive Stalker

She calls you every two hours? She messages you every half an hour? She gets upset the moment you look at another woman and throws a fit when you talk to another lady? She likes it when you wear her favourite colours but feels sad when you wear one that she doesn't like?

If the answer to the above questions is a yes then you NEED to NOT see her ever again. Some women get possessive and obsessive to the point that they suffocate you and thus stunt your growth as a human being. You cannot and should not become her shadow or a person of her liking alone. Protect your identity and guard your self-respect by giving her the boot.

3. The Attention Seeker

All women like to get as much attention as possible from their man. But some women make a nasty habit out of it. They will be on their best behaviour as long as they are the centre of attraction and will totally flip the moment the attention shifts. Let's be practical. It is wrong of your girlfriend to want to be the centre of your life for an indefinite period of time. After all you have friends, family, work which deserve your attention as well. As soon as you realise she is asking way too much of your time and that she is crawling into your personal space ask her to back off. If the problem persists after repeated warnings it is advisable for you to back off.

4. The Emotional Wreck

While men love to be the hero in a girl's life please avoid playing hero in the life of a damsel in distress. It is romantic to think that your love will bring her out of her misery and she will see the good you did for her and so be yours forever. Yes, your love will help her get emotionally better but that does not mean she is going to fall for you. Falling for an emotional wreck will drain you emotionally and you might not get much in return.

5. The Material Girl

This one is pretty simple. If she is only after your money then she is no good. She will distance herself from you when she finds a more affluent man or when your pocket strength weakens. Building emotional ties with her is futile and so is expecting a steady stable relationship.

Reasons why the world will end in 2012

Global Warming - You didn't care then, its too late now

alt

alt

Our scientists had always told us about the ill-effects of global warming and Al Gore and Leo Di Caprio also sent us constant reminders of how we should try and use less water and use eco-friendly substances etc. We know you didn't try to save the earth from global warming and now is thus, the time to face the music.

Constant Catastrophes - God's Revenge

alt

Seriously, do you want more proof of the fact that that the world is slowly reaching its end? With over a hundred earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, terror attacks, hailstorms, floods, volcanic eruptions, landslides, etc we have a "titanic" reason to worry.

Worldwide Mess - There's a reason for this Mess

alt

Translates to the major social, political and economic mess that's going on around the world. Some of the major events that have shook the world and also claimed lives are the Egyptian Revolution, the Libyan Civil War, the Occupy Wall Street Movement, London Riots and our home-grown Anna Hazare movement, apart from many other revolutionary movements in various other countries is indicative something larger that might be in store for us.

Astrological Predictions - Your Jyotish is Wrong!

alt

This is where it really starts getting eerie. The world is indeed going to end according to the predictions made by Mayan astrologers, Hindu mythology, the Bible and Nostradamus. All of them suggest the same fate for 2012 i.e. the beginning of the end of the world. Who cares if a few supposed 'intelligent thinkers' don't believe in it? The predictions of Nostradamus were accurate with respect to the London Fire of 1966, the II World War and 9/11.

Legendary Deaths - Everybody Important is Dead

alt

2011 is already ending on a mournful note since it has seen the death of a lot of influential personalities. A number of our loved celebs left this world. Steve Jobs died, so did Tiger Pataudi and Amy Winehouse and Dev Anand and Jagjit Singh and Elizabeth Taylor and many others. Co-incidentally, this was also the year which saw the death of Osama bin Laden and Muanmar Gaddafi. What more do you want us to say? You're next?

NASA Findings - Yes, The NASA

alt

alt

A few years back leaks had been found in the earth's magnetic poles giving rise to speculations that it would lead to some massive upheaval on the planet. This year again, reports have flown about the shift in the earth poles which has again given us reason to believe in the theory.

2013 Doesn't Sound Right

alt

Those of you that don't think 13 is an unlucky number, we're not talking to you. Those that do only have to imagine the significance of the year 2012. Isn't it way too uncanny that the astrologers don't see the world stepping into 2013? The number 13 itself gives the inkling of a bad omen. So, it is only obvious that the world is coming to an end on 2012, right?

Manmohan Knows - He knew all Along

alt

This explains his silence in the face of the socio-political unrest that has hit the country. Therefore, while everyone is screaming about the country being a banana republic and the all the politicians being corrupt, etc. etc. Manmohan is basking in the warmth of his secret knowledge. So, dear Mr. Prime Minister, now that we have revealed you secret, what do you have to say to that?

Bulk Messages(SMS) Codes reference

Ever confused by what does LM-ICICIBNK, VX-Citibank, LM-AxisBank, BT-SBI, AM-Holidays etc. means ??

As per new TRAI regulation insisted bulk SMS providers to restrict the "Sender ID" to 8 characters. Other three characters should be used to specify who is the service provider & where it's originated from. Say for example: HDFCBANK sends an SMS to you using bulk SMS provider located at Tamil Nadu which uses Airtel. You will receive it as AT-HDFCBANK. First character specifies which service provider the message is being originated & the second character specifies from which location it's originated.

Here is the table which has details of these SMS codes:

Service Provider............ Code
Aircel, Dishnet Wireless........ D
Bharti Airtel....................... A
BSNL................................ B
BPL Mobile/Loop Telecom...... L
Datacom Solutions............... C
HFCL Infotel....................... H
Idea Cellular....................... I
MTNL................................ M
Reliance Communications...... R
Reliance Telecom................ E
S tel................................. S
Shyam Telecom.................. Y
Spice Telecom.................... P
Swan Telecom................... W
Tata Teleservices............... T
Unitech Group.....................U
Vodafone Group.................. V

Service Area............... Code
Andhra Pradesh.................. A
Assam.............................. S
Bihar................................ B
Delhi................................ D
Gujarat............................ G
Haryana........................... H
Himachal Pradesh............... I
Jammu & Kashmir............... J
Karnataka........................ X
Kerala............................. L
Kolkata........................... K
Madhya Pradesh............... Y

North East....................... N
Orissa............................. O
Punjab........................... P
Rajasthan........................ R
Tamil Nadu....................... T
UP-East........................... E

So, combination of these two constitutes the first two digit of "Sender" followed by an hyphen (-) & actual sender name.

How to write a good CV

What is a CV?

In CV in layman's terms can be called as your marketing brochure through which you are trying to sell your skill set to a potential employer.

What is the purpose of a CV?

The purpose of your CV is to fetch you an interview call. Nothing more, nothing less. If you have got an interview call based on your CV, it has done its job well. Now it is for you to deal with the interview in a proper way to secure the job. A CV can not get you a job. It is only you who can get yourself a job which you always aspired for.

Who should write your CV?

Many of us rely on our father, brothers, sisters, friends, consultants and the big boss internet to write our CV. However, you must understand that the only person who knows yourself the best in this world is you. So, it is you and only you who can do the job of presenting yourself in the best way. Write your CV yourself. Offcourse, you can show it to others for a feedback from the reader's point of view.

When should you write your CV?

If you are reading this article, it means either you have already written your CV and finding ways to improve it. If you have not done that already, you are ready to write a CV. So, sit down at the first possibly opportunity you get to write your CV.

A good CV can not be drafted in one sitting. Drafting and re-drafting is the key to a good CV. You will have the time to think over your CV and re-draft it only if you write it well on advance. If you sit to write a CV just an evening before you have to apply for a job, there are high chances that you will not be satisfied with the document yourself.

What are the advantages of writing a CV?

When you write a CV, you think a lot over your candidature, skills, strengths and weaknesses. This process of thinking helps you in predicting some of the most possible interview questions and gives you a chance to find their answers.

Here are some tips to write an effective CV:

Keep it neat:

The only fate dirty CVs meet is landing up in the trash bins. So, make sure that your CV is neat and well organised. We talk a lot about the products being user friendly. Make sure your CV is also user friendly. User her is the person who screens the CVs and gives you a gate pass to the interview.

Keep it small:

No one has time to read pages after pages about you. Keep your CV as short as possibly. Try that it doesn't go beyond two pages. After all, certain things should be left to discuss in the interview also.

Write short and crisp sentences:

Long sentences are difficult to read and understand. Use punctuation marks properly to keep your sentences short and crisp.

Start with contact details:

Provide your contact details at the beginning of your CV. After your CV is shortlisted, the first thing a recruiter wants to do is give you an interview call. If your contact details are not easily found or are embedded somewhere in the text on second page, there are high chances of you losing the opportunity to the next candidate. So, provide a phone number and e-mail address where you can be reached.

Provide a career summary:

Your career summary appears on the first screen of recruiter's computer. It should say all about you and the recruiter should be able to decide by looking at these 7-8 lines if they want to call you for an interview or not.

Work experience is more important than qualification:

If you have a work experience, qualification takes a back seat. Provide information about your work experience focussing on your achievements which display your skills. If you add some numbers to the achievements, it helps you in increasing the level of interest in a recruiter.

For e.g. if you said, "Settled 4 manufacturing units in 5 states of India during 3 years" it becomes stronger than "Settled manufacturing 4 units in India".

Educational qualifications:

Provide your educational qualifications in chronologically descending order. People are more interested in finding out about your recent past. If you have not scored good marks, avoid providing the percentage of marks you scored.

Include the relevant information. Your CV may require a little bit of modification according to the type of opening you are applying for. You may need to expose different facets of your personality and work experience for different openings.

Avoid un-necessary details:

It doesn't matter to a recruiter what your father's or mother's name is. Similarly, he is not interested in knowing the number of children you have (until he has to bear their expenses).
Cut out these and other such unnecessary details from your CV.

Avoid abbreviations:

Most of the times your CV will be screened by the HR people and they are not experts in every domain. So, avoid the use of abbreviations and jargons to make the CV easier for them to read and understand. If they do not understand and abbreviation or jargon you have used in the CV, it might cost you the opportunity, making the whole exercise futile.

Use more impactful words:

Use words which display your control over things. For e.g. managed, achieved, counselled, recruited etc.

Emphasize at right place:

Learn to emphasize at right place in the CV. If you think, any of your particular achievements gives you a cutting edge over other job seekers for a particular opening, emphasize on it. For e.g. if you are a fresher and you have been a topper of your college or university, it is worth mentioning and emphasizing in the CV. Similarly, if you are an experienced worker and your particular achievement has been acknowledged by your employer, which you think can add more value to your CV while applying for a particular position, emphasize on it.

Check for spellings and grammar

Try to keep your CV free of any spelling mistakes and bad grammar. They put the recruiter off and can put you in embarrassing situations at times.

Avoid using "I"," my" in your CV

The recruiter knows well that you are talking about yourself in your CV. Avoid the use of words like I, my in your CV. It makes you look egomaniac.

So, as you sit to write your CV, keep these tips in mind and prune out any unnecessary details. It should give you an effective CV.

12 things recruiters do not like to see on a CV

Having seen the tips to write an effective CV, let's take a look at the things which might put recruiters off from your CV.

Colorful or glossy paper and flashy fonts

Your CV is a formal, official document. Keep it simple. Use a plain white A4 size paper and formal fonts like Times New Roman, Verdana, Calibri or Arial. Avoid using flashy fonts like Lucida Calligraphy or Freestyle Script.

However, there are exceptions to everything and they do exist here as well. If you are applying to a position where you are required to demonstrate your creative skills using a glossy paper and flashy fonts might work to your advantage.

Resume or CV on the top

Many people have a habit of giving a heading to their CV. The usual ones are CV, Curriculum Vitae, Resume. The person reading the CV very well knows that it's a CV and moreover your CV will be accompanied by a cover letter which will do the job of introducing it.

When you receive a newspaper in the morning, does anyone need to tell you that it's a newspaper? Does it have a bold heading, NEWSPAPER? No. Looking at the newspaper itself tells you what it is. This applied to your CV also.

Photographs until asked

Photographs until asked- Do not add your photo to the CV until you have been asked for it. For general positions, recruiters are more interested in your skill set rather than your looks.

Photographs are required only for certain types of positions like models, actors etc.

Usage of 'I', 'My', 'He', 'She'

Do not use these in your CV. Many candidates write, 'I worked as Team Leader for the XYZ Company' or 'He was awarded Best Employee for the year 2007'. Usage of 'I' and related terms makes you look egomaniac in your CV.

Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors

Proof read your CV until you are confident that it doesn't have any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. They are big put offs for the recruiters. Moreover, sometimes these mistakes might land you up in an embarrassing situation. A candidate who submitted his CV without proof reading it committed a mistake of wrongly spelling 'ask' as 'ass'. Now you can imagine the type of embarrassment he must have faced during the interview, when the interviewer pointed it out. These mistakes convey your lazy and careless attitude to the interviewer.

Lies about your candidature

Do not lie about your past jobs or qualifications or anything which might have an impact up on the job. You may be able to secure a job with these lies today but tomorrow you may lose it as well.

Not necessary that you have to say everything about yourself. You definitely have the right to remain silent but do not portray yourself as someone who you are not.

Abbreviations or jargons that are difficult to understand

People screening your resume usually belong to the HR department. If they do not understand what the abbreviations and jargons mean, they will simply dump your CV in the trash can. So, avoid over usage of such terms.

However, when you see the people from your domain for an interview, using these terms will demonstrate your familiarity with the area and give you better chances of getting hired.

Reasons for leaving the last jobs

Leave them to be discussed during the personal interview. For example, some candidates write, Reason for leaving the last job: Made Redundant. Avoid making such statements in your CV.

Any past failures or health problems

Mentioning these would reduce your chances of getting an interview call.

Suppose if you have a gap in your employment because you started your own business which did not do well. In this case, some candidates might write, Reason for gap in employment: Started own business which did not do well. Do not do this type of injustice with your job hunt.

It is better to leave these to be discussed during the interview, if asked.

Current or expected salary

Leave it to be discussed while negotiating the salary. Mentioning the expected salary or current salary until asked might cost you the opportunity if you look too costly or may get you badly paid if the employer was willing to pay you higher but you appeared as a cheaper alternative.

Irrelevant details

Leave out the details like marital status, gender, passport number, number of kids, age of kids. These are usually irrelevant for the interviewers but at times might be used as a basis of discrimination.

References

Do not include them until asked. It is not even required to mention the line "Reference available on request". You can provide the references if and when asked.

Redefine your Image or Personality

Q: Please suggest me some etiquette or way of behaving during personal interview during admission process for MBA which can impress the people on the panel. – Zohra
RS: Do these things: 1. Dress formally. 2. Check your tone of voice. 3. Watch your behavior. 4. Be aware of your visual communication. Prepare well not only with subject, but with your presentation of self.

Q: Sir, tell me the best way to shake hands while meeting anyone officially. - Arpana
RS: Hi Arpana, there are handshakes and more handshakes. One must stand straight, offer a firm hand, three pumps on a first official introduction, twice for subsequent meetings and one when leaving others. It is always the right of the lady to decide whether she wants to offer a handshake to a man or not and a very important rule is that, the host is the one who has to initiate the handshake.

Q: How loud a voice is considered etiquette for public meeting /conferences? - Jaya
RS: Hi Jaya, one doesn't need a loud voice these days to be a good public speaker. What with the audio equipment that is provided. Just speak as if you are talking to a group of six people around you. That should be fine.

Q: What kind of table manners should be followed when out for lunch with clients? – Reema
RS: Hi Reema, Dining table is the place where one can demonstrate their etiquette. Learn how to use the cutlery and crockery, their usage and a very important rule, you go to a restaurant not to eat but to show off your skill of western dining. Also ensure that you know the placement of crockery, cutlery, don't make mouth noises, practice cutting food and bringing it to the mouth. All your liquids will be on your right and solids on your left.

Q: How can I improve my impression and how can I be that kind of a person whom people like to help. What are the points I should keep in my mind? - Sanjeev
RS: Usually we say give and take respect. We believe that when we are helpful others will do the same to us. But sometimes we need to be assertive. Don't just go around doing good. You need to make it clear that you expect them to help you too and ask for it when needed.

Q: Please tell me the attitude, manners and personality traits which I should develop, which would be useful for me to face any sort of administrative/political-problems/solution or any complicated circumstances I come across in my future. N.Praveen Devaraaja
RS: Whether you will be a success or not depends on the first impressions you make on others. It just takes seven seconds time for somebody to come to form a first impression about you. So you need to be careful of how you are perceived by others. Also be natural in your presentation. To be successful, you need to analyze every situation and take a decision that is logical and serves the purpose.

Q: What is the best way to teach etiquette to the age group of 4 - 6 year old kids? - Kavita
RS: I say, kids have only eyes and no ears. They see what you do and how you practice what you preach. So teach the kids etiquette by practicing it.

Q: I've recently joined a MNC. I often don't bother about what people think about me. I only concentrate on my business. Because of this my colleagues feel I have a bad attitude and they don't interact with me as they would do with the other people. So give me some ideas that I could implement to get their attention and how to maintain the attitude, personality, manners in front of them. - Mohan C
RS: People are always observing us and come to conclusions about us by how we interact with them. If you really want to grow, you cannot do it on your own. You need to be a team player. So start smiling at them to start with and join the coffee machine conversations. Slowly, you will be accepted in to the team. Offer help and ask for help too occasionally.

Q: I wanted to know what should be my thoughts, my body language and my attitude. And how can I come out from my shyness and speak in front of a crowd. - Mohit Mudgal
RS: It is not only your problem but of millions of others. Practice talking in front of a mirror to start with. Practice with friends who would help you. Make a start.

Q: I'm from a village and have come to Mumbai. In first impression I look professional but when I start to speak with anyone they understand from my language that I'm from the village and they start to underestimate me. Then it creates problems for me to communicate in proper way. - Ram
RS: Your written communication is good. Improve your accent, and overcome your mother tongue influence. It will take time. But since you are already aware of your problem, you can overcome it.

Q: I want to know the right postures for a job interview. - Arpan
RS: Hi Arpan, sit with your back erect, arms on the armrest, hands on the lap. Do move your hands, head occasionally. Don't allow your elbows to creep on to the table in front of you. It is not yours.

Q: Is eye contact with the audience an essential factor while delivering a speech? – Nandini
RS: Hi Nandini, in the western culture which we are trying to imitate, eye contact is a must. Otherwise, people think we are not being honest. If you have a problem making constant eye contact, look between the eyes of the people. It will make you, and the other person comfortable.

Top 10 diet foods that can make you fat

Juices and smoothies

When totting up our daily intake of calories, many of us forget to take into account those that come in liquid form. However, the drinks you consume throughout the day can vastly contribute to weight gain. While smoothies and juices count towards your daily intake of fruit (and swapping fry-ups for a morning smoothie would certainly do wonders for your waistline!) supplementing meals with these sugary fruit drinks could add hundreds of extra calories on to your daily intake. Smoothies and juices contain more sugar but less fibre than whole fruit, making fresh fruit a much better snacking option.

Cereal bars

Many of us believe that cereal bars are the perfect healthy snack and breakfast-on-the-go. However, most breakfast bars are packed with cane sugar and corn syrup, not to mention high levels of fat. In fact, despite their healthy image, cereal bars can contain as much fat, sugar and calories as an average chocolate bar, and can cause crashes in blood sugar levels which will leave you craving more food.

Dried fruit

As with smoothies and juices, dried fruit has many beneficial properties and counts towards your daily intake of fruit. However, due to the concentration of sugars that occurs when fruit is dehydrated, it is also very high in calories and sugar when compared to the same amount of fresh fruit, and is much lower in fibre and nutrients. On top of this, many brands add sugar to dried fruit to improve the flavour, which boosts the calorie content even further.

Diet drinks

Many of us turn to sugar-free versions of our favourite drinks to help stay trim, yet diet drinks may actually be causing you to pile on the pounds. Research by the Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio found that those who consumed diet drinks daily experienced a 70 per cent greater increase in waist circumference than those who drank none, while a previous study showed that obesity risk increased by 41 per cent for each diet drink consumed. A suggested reason for this is that artificial sweeteners trigger appetite, and they may also inhibit the brain cells that make you feel full.

Salads

When eating out or buying food on the go, salads are generally presented as the "healthy option". However, often this is not the case. While salads contain vegetables and other healthy ingredients, these are often buried under a layer of oily, sugary dressings which can be high in both fat and calories. Many salads do contain good fats that can help with weight loss (such as in the case of avocados and olive oil), yet this is not always so. Avoid those sneaky calories by drizzling your salads with a light dressing such as balsamic vinegar, or skipping the dressing entirely.

Soup

While soup can be the perfect weight loss food when prepared correctly, not all soups fall into the diet food category. In fact, many soups can rack up a significant amount of fat and calories, particularly those containing dairy products such as cream or cheese. On top of that, many soups are very high in salt, which can lead to bloating. To help stay trim and cut calories, try purchasing (or better yet, making your own) vegetable-based and cream-free soups.

Dips

Hummus is often perceived as the perfect diet-friendly dip. However, while the healthy snack is undoubtedly nutritious, it is also packed with calories and fat from its principle ingredients of oil and tahini. Another dip for dieters to watch out for is guacamole which, while traditionally packed with nutrients and good fats, often contains calorie-laden double cream. While most dips can be eaten in moderation, if you want to splurge guilt-free go for a homemade tomato salsa which is packed with nutritious ingredients and is almost fat-free.

Vegetable crisps

Many people view vegetable crisps as the "healthy" alternative to the potato variety. However, while some vegetable crisps contain slightly more fibre and vitamins than potato crisps, this is not always the case and the difference is generally very slight, with most of the vitamins derived from fresh veggies being lost in the process of making them into crisps. On top of this, vegetable crisps are often just as high in fat and calories as potato ones and contain just as much salt.

Popcorn

Air-popped popcorn is a great nutritious, high-fibre and diet-friendly snack. However, when butter is added into the equation, the tasty snack can quickly lose its healthy credentials. Store-bought and cinema popcorn can be extremely high in fat and calories due to its liberal coating of butter and/or sugar, and is often also served in large quantities. Furthermore, as the TV-friendly snack is often eaten in front of a screen, we can easily consume far more than we intend to due to mindless snacking.

Granola

It's marketed as a health food, is sold in health food stores and even looks remarkably healthy, so it must be a diet food, right? In the case of granola, sadly the answer is no. While granola is undoubtedly nutritious and full of fibre, it also contains high quantities of sugar and oil, making it extremely high in fat and calories. To help save your waistline, try eating granola in small portions or, better yet, switch to a lower fat sugar-free muesli which will deliver the same health benefits without the calories.
